How to get from Nice to Antibes?

The fastest, easiest way is by regional train (TER) from Nice to Antibes, exactly 22 minutes. Trains run frequently along the coast, and the Antibes station is a short walk downhill toward the Old Town and Port Vauban.

Driving is possible, but not advisable, as traffic is unpredictable and parking is limited. You could also hop on a bike and cycle down the flat coastal path.

Best time to visit Antibes

While Antibes charms in every season, certain times of day and months of the year let you see its best side, without the heat or crowds that can easily overwhelm its narrow lanes.

  • Spring (April–June) is one of the best times for a Nice to Antibes day trip. The weather is pleasantly warm, the market stalls are full, and the sea starts to sparkle in that classic Riviera light. It’s ideal for sightseeing and lunch outdoors, and you can comfortably include some beach time in the afternoon.
  • Summer (July–August) brings the liveliest atmosphere… and the largest crowds. Expect busy beaches and a packed Old Town. To make the most of it, start early, explore the Old Town before 11 a.m., and enjoy a late swim at Plage de la Gravette or Plage du Ponteil once the heat settles.
  • Autumn (September–October) offers warm seas and a calmer pace. The market is still lively, but the narrow streets are easier to enjoy without the summer rush. It’s one of my favorite periods for a full-day Antibes itinerary, combining sightseeing and a relaxed beach session.
  • Winter (November–March) is quieter but surprisingly pleasant for a half-day visit. You’ll find empty ramparts, uncrowded museums, and locals enjoying coffee along the harbor. While it’s not swimming season and a few restaurants may close, the atmosphere feels authentically local.

One day in Antibes: Suggested Day Trip Itinerary

To make the most of your one day in Antibes (or even just a half-day), it helps to follow a logical route. The itinerary below is based on my own repeat visits. It balances must-see highlights with breathing room, so you can experience Antibes without rushing from one attraction to the next.

The morning schedule includes all the essentials, but you can choose your afternoon option based on your pace.

Morning (core half-day)

  • Arrive by train and walk toward the Provençal market or Marché Provençal. It’s open early and vibrant but closed on Mondays from September to May.
  • Meander through Old Town lanes and the quaint Le Safranier district. Stop for a coffee or pastry in a shaded corner.
  • Visit Musée Picasso in Château Grimaldi; it’s compact and fits well into the morning slot. Consider booking this artist-led tour for a more thorough insight into Picasso’s creative process.
  • Walk the ramparts along the sea edge, from the Jardin des Poètes to Port Vauban.

Lunch

  • Choose a café or bistro near the market or Old Town. Pick a place with a terrace view so you can people-watch or opt for a more intimate setting like the one at Le P’tit Cageot.

Afternoon options

  • Option A – Beach and fort: After lunch, relax at Plage de la Gravette, or visit Musée Peynet or local galleries if you prefer art over sand. Then, stroll around Port Vauban and inspect the luxury yachts (this is free and atmospheric). Walk up to Fort Carré (guided tours) for views over the harbor and coast.
  • Option B – Beach and hike: Enjoy some downtime on the iconic Plage de la Garoupe. From there, start your exploration of the coastal path that wraps around the Cape, one of the most scenic French Riviera coastal walks. Ig you happen to visit on a Saturday, pass by Villa Eilenroc and discover its fragrant gardens.
  • Option C – Explore further: Take the train over to the iconic city of Cannes or take a ride-share to the enchanting hilltop town of Saint-Paul de Vence for a delightful immersion in the slow Provençal lifestyle.
  • Option D – Guided e-bike tour: Ambitious travelers who don’t mind the faster pace might like this guided e-bike tour. However, since it starts in the morning, you’d have to customize my suggested itinerary a bit.

Evening (optional)

  • Dine at Nananère on the convivial Place des Martyrs de la Résistance or opt for a gastronomic experience under the fig tree at Le Figuier de Saint-Esprit (1 Michelin star).
  • Take a nightcap at the Absinthe Bar with its 9th-century vaulted cellar. If you happen to visit on the weekend, you can enjoy live music here.
  • In summer, browse the artisan market at the Esplanade du Pré des Pêcheurs on your way to the train station.
  • Take the train back to Nice (the last trains run until around 10 pm in the off-season and around midnight in high season).
