Are you looking for a dreamy French Mediterranean retreat with direct beach access? Then this curated collection of French Riviera beach hotels is for you.
Many visitors are surprised to learn that the most famous French Riviera hotels, even the palatial ones on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and the Croisette in Cannes, are separated from the beach by busy coastal roads and promenades.
While these gorgeous properties have private beach clubs across the road, they don’t offer quite the seamless beach experience you might dream of.
Other iconic luxury hotels, the Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat for one, offer a spectacular seafront location but don’t come with a beach.
So, you see, finding that perfect South of France beach resort, one where you can step directly onto the sand, is pretty challenging.
That’s exactly why I’ve created this carefully curated guide. It focuses exclusively on those rare and special hotels that sit directly on the beach: no roads to cross, no promenades to navigate, but direct access to a private stretch of Côte d’Azur beach.
Whether you’re planning a family vacation where the kids can safely run between room and beach, seeking a romantic getaway with sunset views from your private balcony, or simply wanting to wake up to the sound of waves without any barriers between you and the sea, the perfect beach holiday starts with a fabulous French Riviera hotel on the beach.

A quick word about beach hotels in the French Riviera
The reason why French Riviera hotels on the beach are so rare is that both seafront construction and public beach access are strictly regulated in France.
Then again, the coastline remaining as picturesque as it has been for decades is exactly what makes the Côte d’Azur so alluring!
Think spacious promenades, palm-lined coastal boulevards, and a low-rise backdrop with a touch of Art Deco and Belle Epoque. In between towns, you may find seafront properties but these never dominate the beautiful French Mediterranean landscape.
Another thing to note is that the coastline of the French Riviera is much more diverse than that of some other Mediterranean destinations. Don’t expect sandy beaches in every bay. Most beaches have smooth pebbles that vary in size while others are downright rocky.
Some luxurious hotels on the French Riviera lack an actual beach and offer a solarium or a pontoon for sunbathing instead.
My selection of French Riviera hotels on the beach
For this article, I focus exclusively on hotels directly positioned on a beach. Since there are no actual beach hotels in Nice or some other Côte d’Azur hotspots, some amazing cities are not represented.
But don’t despair: You can find articles on the best places to stay on the French Riviera, the best places to stay in Nice, and the best places to stay in Cannes on this site too. Just remember that for most beachfront accommodations, you’ll be crossing a coastal road and a promenade to get to the beach.
More accommodation articles, from boutique hotels to romantic hideaways, are coming soon.
Note that some South French beach resorts may charge even hotel guests for a sunbed. If that’s the case for any of the hotels in this list, I made sure to mention that.
Finally, most beach hotels on the French Riviera close their doors during the winter months. For your convenience, I’ve noted the seasonal closure periods for every listing.
Here’s my curated collection of French Riviera beach resorts.

The serene coastal setting of this French Riviera beach hotel, away from the bustle of larger resort towns yet within easy reach of the region’s many attractions, can’t be beaten.
2. La Pinède Plage in La Croix-Valmer
La Pinède Plage is a refined yet unpretentious beachfront retreat on the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Both this hotel and its luxurious sister property Château de Valmer down the road have been in the hands of the same family for generations. That genuine hospitality puts them among the best South of France beach resorts.
Nestled in fragrant pine woods, the intimate La Pinède Plage emphasizes natural beauty over glitz, creating an environment where the sound of waves and singing cicadas dictate the rhythm.
The hotel enjoys a privileged position on Gigaro Beach, known for its golden sands and breathtaking sequence of headlands and coves. Take a dip in the panoramic heated pool or the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean before playing a game on the tennis court.
Located in La Croix-Valmer, a typical Provençal village sheltered in a wind-protected valley, the hotel offers easy access to local markets, shops, and year-round cultural events. This level of authenticity feels worlds apart from the glamour of Saint-Tropez a few miles north.

The hotel’s private beach seamlessly merges with a protected marine reserve and water enthusiasts will find plenty to love with a private jetty offering an array of activities. Its location makes Le Méridien Beach Plaza one of the few true beachfront properties on the French Riviera, providing direct access to both the Mediterranean’s waters and Monaco’s countless attractions.

Next on this list of French Riviera hotels on the beach is a former soap factory and later a private residence with Scottish influences. This inviting backdrop sets the tone for a relaxing atmosphere and provides a tranquil base for exploring the striking landscapes of the Massif de l’Esterel.
La Plage Blanche is Château de Théoule’s privileged beach club. White parasols and chic beach decor contrast beautifully with the ochre-colored shores and azure waters of Théoule-sur-Mer. Though the beach carries a fee for hotel guests, the investment promises an incomparable level of seclusion and service on one of the French Riviera’s rare soft sandy stretches.
The hotel’s distinguished history lends an elegant ambiance, with accommodations spread across three distinct settings: the château itself, a private villa, and the charming Fishermen’s House. As part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, the property blends sophisticated style with a family-friendly atmosphere. Behind the terracotta façade, you’ll find timeless accommodations with a chic nautical aesthetic.
